How prices are estimated

Each system type starts from a national installed-price range built from published 2025–2026 cost guides. The range is split into equipment and labor, then adjusted for efficiency, installation access and a labor-cost index for your state, from about 0.90 in Mississippi to 1.30 in Alaska and Hawaii. Ductwork, permits, electrical upgrades and other extras are listed as separate lines, the way they appear on a contractor's quote.

Typical 2026 price ranges

ProjectTypical range
Central AC, 3 ton$4,700 – $8,000
Gas furnace, 80,000 BTU, 80% AFUE$3,000 – $5,300
